Day Trip Guides
A short guide to this charming and colorful village framed by historic remparts.

Villefranche-sur-Mer (or Villefranche for the locals) is perfect if you want a little escape in a quieter place than Nice. This charming and colorful place has everything you need if you only have one day. Down below, you’ll find a quick itinerary for the perfect day trip from Nice. This seaside gem has everything for a perfect Mediterranean day: colorful houses, a bay full of yachts and fishing boats, and restaurants where you can sit by the sea and just relax.
It’s small enough to explore in a day, but trust me—you’ll def come back next time.

How to Get There ?
From Nice, it’s a 10-minute train ride—super easy. You can also take bus 100 along the coast, which is cheap and scenic. And, by car it will be a 15-20 minutes ride. You can even get there by walk.
What’s the Budget ?
A day here doesn’t have to be expensive. Exploring the town is free, beach access is free, and cafés or casual meals are usually €10–20. Most of the things are about wandering so it won’t be expensive.
When to Go?
Late spring or early autumn. You’ll avoid the summer crowds, the weather is still beautiful, and the light is softer for photos.
Start your day in Villefranche’s Old Town. No map needed—just walk. The streets are narrow and it’s a rainbow of oranges, yellows, and pinks. Wander arround and get lost, you’ll find colorful doors and quiet staircases. Clearly a photographer’s dream. Also, shutters in every shade of green and blue. Btw don’t miss the Rue Obscure, a medieval covered street that feels like stepping back in time.
My tip: If you’re more into history, pop into Saint-Michel Church, with its baroque details and peaceful vibe or the Saint-Pierre Cocteau chapel (4€ ticket).

Lunch – By the Water
For lunch in Villefranche-sur-Mer, head down toward the harbor and go to Dry Restaurant—the food is delicious, the décor modern, and the setting simply dreamy. If you don’t necessarily want a sea view, try Papillon Restaurant. There are plenty of little restaurants in Villefranche where you can enjoy your lunch with a beautiful view of the sea.
My Tip: For Summer time grab your pan bagnat, rent a paddle board and eat it on the bay of Villefranche. (My fav)
Afternoon – Beach Time
After lunch, it’s time to slow down. Spend a couple of hours at Plage des Marinières, Villefranche’s main beach. The water is calm to swim and the views of the bay are picture-perfect. If you’re not in the mood to sunbathe, keep exploring the backstreets or head to Eze Village.
Late Afternoon – Sunset Stroll
Before you leave, take a last walk along the seafront promenade. The golden light on the colorful facades is pure magic. Stop for a gelato or a coffee, sit by the water, and soak in the moment. This is the kind of place where you realize that the Riviera isn’t just about luxury—it’s also about simple pleasures.
