The Ultimate Travel Guide to Uzes : A Dream Village in Provence

Since I was little, I used to spend a few weeks here every summer and always loved it. But what’s funny is that it’s only recently, coming back for a day, after coming back years later, that I really noticed its charm. I ended up loving it even more and make me want to writ this travel guide to Uzes. Villages might not be the first thing people think of when they imagine France, but to me, Uzès is def one of the most beautiful.
In this guide, I’ll show you how to discover it in just one day, with local markets, hidden gems, and the spots I loved. I’ll also share ideas if you want to stay a few days.

What to Expect on Your Arrival
Uzès is such a charming town — a very beautiful French village full of history and character. The magic starts already when you arrive — everytime i come i’m still as amazed as if it was my first time — as you drive through vineyards and along pretty roads lined with “platanes” (plane trees).
Once in town, you can stroll through the old streets, explore the lively market on Place aux Herbes, or visit the medieval garden for a peaceful moment. If you want to slow down even more, you can go for a walk by the Vallée de l’Eure. Uzès is the perfect mix of history, local life, and quiet beauty — all in just one day.

When you get close to Uzès, you’ll start to see the quiet countryside change into a lovely little town full of old white stone buildings, narrow streets and it’s medieval architecture. What i also love is the big plane trees (platanes) shading some main roads and streets, making it feel calm and welcoming.
How to Get Arround
The town center is small and very easy to walk around and for the rest of the town the easiest way will definitely be by car.
There’s parking near the center, but it’s best to come early if you want a good spot—depending on the days you coming, especially on market days in summer when it can get quite busy.
How to Get to Uzès
Uzès is easy to reach from several nearby cities, all of them are accessible by train. From there, you can either rent a car or take a bus to reach Uzès, since the village itself doesn’t have a train station.
3 Closest Cities Accessible by Train :
From Nîmes, it’s roughly 30 minutes. It takes you through vineyards and open fields. It’s for me the easiest and shortest way and the one i’ll go for from the south of France.
From Avignon, Uzès is about a 40-minute drive west. The route also offers beautiful countryside views.
From Montpellier, it’s about 1h30 drive mostly on the highway before switching to smaller roads to Uzès.
If you’re flying in, the nearest airports is Marseille and Nice and from there it will take you 2 hours and 3 hours by car.
Things To Do

If there’s one thing you def can’t miss in Uzès, it’s the market on Place aux Herbes. It takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the whole square comes alive. Walking through alleys of colorful stalls, with the smell of fresh fruits, local cheeses, homemade tapenades or even pottery and flowers will instantly make your day feel beautiful.

If you love discovering local craftsmanship, you have to check out Les Pots d’Uzès. I found this lovely place while wandering through the charming little streets of Uzès, and it instantly became one of my favorite finds.
It’s much more than just a flower shop. As you walk in a small boutique, few meters further i was welcomed by a huge outdoor garden filled with beautiful handmade terracotta pots, surrounded by plants and olive trees (my fav tree at all time), i was amazed like a kid. It honestly feels like going into a secret garden where art and nature come together and if you’re not curious enough to get into this shop you could never find this gem.
If you’re craving a quiet moment, don’t miss the medieval garden in Uzès. It’s a beautifully kept little haven, full of medicinal herbs, ancient plants, and peaceful corners to sit and breathe. The vibe is calm, almost timeless—perfect for slowing down and soaking in a bit of nature and history.
Just a few minutes walking from the center of Uzès, the Vallée de l’Eure is the perfect place to slow down. Think peaceful paths along the river, trees with plenty of shade, and that soft sound of flowing water. It’s perfect for a quiet walk, a little picnic, or just laying in the grass doing nothing—and honestly, those moments where you just embrace the place that are my favorite.
If you’ve got a love for sweet or just curious, make a quick stop at the Haribo Museum, just outside Uzès. It’s fun, colorful, and full of treats—perfect for candy lovers (which i unfortunately for this boutique, don’t belong to). You’ll get a peek into the brand’s history… and yes, you can feel in your stocks on the way out, there very cute things that are not even candy but are related to like cute colorful boxes, cup or socks.
Uzès is one of those places that makes you slow down and just enjoy the moment. From the lively market to a quiet coffee in the square or a hidden pottery garden, it’s full of little joys. I hope this Travel Guide to Uzes helps you make the most of your day here—and maybe even makes you want to stay longer. Once you’ve seen it, it’s hard not to fall in love with Uzès.
